Artists of the North Exhibition 2022, Cairns, Far North Queensland
Having discovered and joined the Cairns Art Society a few months ago, I decided to enter two of my artworks into the Artists of the North Exhibition held at the famous Tanks Arts Centre, Cairns, Australia and organised by CAS.
The exhibition is held every year and entrants must live in Far North Queensland which is defined as an area between the Bowen principality to the south, the border of Papua/New Guinea and Australia to the north , west to the Northern Territory border & east to Willis Island.
I entered two of my favourites: ‘Mythos’ and ‘Enter Night’ and organised to have them framed within the deadline.
It was down to the wire with all the weather disasters down south and the difficulty getting framing supplies but we got there eventually.
My wife and I went to the opening night and were blown away by the quality of the artworks exhibited.
Dayle Jordan, the curator of the exhibition and Eunice McAllister, the exhibition coordinator did a fabulous job.
I believe there were more than 140 artworks ranging from paintings to sculpture, photography, ceramics and jewellery.
Bob Manning, the Cairns major gave a speech to officially open the Exhibition, followed by Cairns Art Society announcing the commended and highly commended artworks.
When it came time to announce the winner of this year’s Artists of the North (theme was Humanity), they called my name !
No need to say that it took a few seconds for my wife and I to understand that we had won…
It was such a surprise and we are so grateful for the win and recognition.
The Exhibition is on until the end of April 2022 if you are in the area.
